About the Company
THE COUNTRY
The Republic of Fiji, straddling the International Date Line, is often referred to as the crossroads of the Pacific. This hospitable land of islands, lagoons, lush forests and mountains is home to more than 700,000 of the friendliest people in the world.

The Fiji archipelago has over 300 islands scattered across 200,000 square miles of ocean. The total land area is about 2,800 square miles.

LOCATION:
The Fiji Islands are situated at approximately 180 degrees longitude and 17 degrees south.

FLYING TIMES:
Australia - 4 hours to Sydney
New Zealand - 2 hours to Auckland
USA - 10 hours to Los Angeles
Asia – 7 hours to Seoul, Korea
Europe – 13 hours to Frankfurt, Germany

WEATHER
Fiji enjoys a warm sunny climate most of the year. May to October is the mild, dry season, while November to April is generally warmer and wetter. Temperatures range from 78 to 88 degrees during the day and the evenings are normally in the high 70’s and low 80's. The country is in a tropical zone so you can expect the occasional shower to water the plants and brighten the flowers.

TIMES ZONES
Although the 180th Meridian passes through the Fiji Group, the International Date Line is adjusted so that the entire archipelago falls into the same time zone: 12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

LANGUAGE
English is the official language. Fijian and Hindustani are spoken as well.

CURRENCY:
The national currency is the Fiji Dollar, which is divided into 100 cents and trades independently on the foreign-exchange markets. Overseas currency is easily converted at the airport and local banks. Most major credit cards are accepted at resorts and shops. The exchange rate as of 30/12/01 is approximately $2.25FD to $1.00USD

IMMIGRATION:
All visitors to Fiji must have a current passport valid for at least three months from the date of entry and return or ongoing air tickets. Visitor permits are granted at the airport on arrival for a stay of four months for citizens of most countries. Please check with your travel agent or our reservations staff for up to date information on your particular country of origin.

HEALTH:
Fiji is a very healthy country, free from most tropical diseases. Inoculations are not required unless a traveler is entering from a designated infected country.

TIPPING:
Individual tipping is not encouraged but guests may acknowledge excellent service by contributing to the Christmas Fund which is shared by all resort employees.
