Located in the Mamanuca group of islands off Nadi, Wadigi is one of my favorite intimate resorts in Fiji. Really not a resort at all, Wadigi Island Lodge is what I call a One Villa Boutique Lodge... Situated on a small island, you and you alone are the inhabitants of your own 3 bedroom Villa. Ross and Jenny have converted an island top home into one of Fiji's most delightful 5+ star experiences.

You can arrive to Wadigi by boat (we arrived from Mana) or by seaplane (we departed by seaplane). You are greeted by Ross and Jenny who are the Island's gracious owners & hosts. Only a few steps up to the top of the island, you begin to understand why you decided to come to this private retreat. The dining area is YOUR private dining room. Just outside is the outdoor dining area where you sit to enjoy your welcome fruit drink. Your "briefing" consists of telling you that all 3 bedrooms are yours (unless of course you have brought friends or family with you). The master bedroom opens to a deck with lounges. From your bed, you have an unobstructed million dollar view looking over a pristine reef... that's it! No other islands in site. The bathroom is light and airy with the bathtub at windows edge - windows opening to the open sea... begging you to hop in and pop open a bottle of champagne with the one you love! The living room has a deck on 2 sides looking out toward Malolo island. A new experience for us, the DVD and CD player were a welcome option to the more "laid back" resorts we enjoy when in Fiji. The comfy couch and chairs, wet bar, game board and overall feeling of the room is unique for the Fiji Islands. The second day we were at Wadigi it was a little rainy and we had a DVD marathon inbetween meals, taking a nap, drinking an excellent bottle of wine, playing cribbage and other diversions. I really loved it. Surrounding the house are flowering bushes, ironwood trees whistling in the breeze (and they do whistle) and strategically placed benches, chairs and hammock. One morning (I'm an early riser) I went into the second bedroom to spread out and read and when the sun rose I promptly began to sample all of the garden venues. First the hammock - which gets my vote as the best hammock with a view in Fiji. Then on to the pretty teak benches - each with its own commanding view. By the time 7am rolled around, I had completed my "tour de lounge". There wasn't a "view" that I didn't experience that morning. Later that afternoon, the island massage therapist (not included in the price) set up her table under the whistling Ironwood trees. She lomi lomi'd my body as fresh island breezes swept over us and played melodious tunes in the trees. Oh my, it was heaven!

Wadigi Island Lodge has its own private beaches with excellent snorkeling. You can take a kayak out for paddle, laze around and get a suntan or have the island's boat take you to other areas for snorkeling off distant reefs. My husband had brought his new toys with him to the island, motorola walkie talkies. "What a great way to stay in touch." he says! He sent me to the beach with mine. As I lay relaxed and counting puffy clouds, my beach bag started talking. Come in... Come in..... After about 1 mili-second I decided that this was not a time to be distrubed. Boys will be boys - but I wanted peace and quiet. My walkie talkie was retired for the rest of the vacation!

You have 2 chefs to create mouth watering meals (make sure you let them know of any special requests or dietary restrictions). We LOVED every meal and felt more pampered than I can tell you. Breakfast always included fresh fruits and baked goods. Lunch was something delicious, creative and more like a dinner. Dinner was a multi-course delight - with each course outdoing the next. Wadigi is all inclusive and the wine list is quite good - the champagne French. Ross had told us that he was going to offer an additional wine list for those with discriminating tastes. This list will be available for an additional charge. Check with us to find out when this will go into affect.

Wadigi Island Lodge may not be for everyone. If you are looking for social interaction with a variety of other people, we can suggest more suitable places to enjoy in Fiji. On Wadigi, you have the opportunity to visit with Ross and Jenny or have complete privacy. Wadigi is not a big island and the beaches are "compact". If you are looking for the long stretch of beach to take lazy walks on, Wadigi will not fit your desires. Wadigi is unique, private, pampering, quiet, and more high tech audio-visual wise for those wishing it. I am a big fan of all 5 star resorts in Fiji... Vatulele, Wakaya, Yasawa, Namale and Turtle. Each one has its special something to offer and I always find the best of each when I stay at these resorts. Could I spend a week at Wadigi? Absolutely and then probably beg for more!
